INEC Publishes Credentials of 2027 Presidential Candidates

On Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) published the credentials and personal particulars of presidential candidates, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, and African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Atiku Abubakar, in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This publication, which also includes credentials of Vice President Kashim Shettima and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, complies with the Electoral Act's provisions.

Scheduled for August 19, the official campaign commencement allows Nigerians to scrutinize the documents submitted by candidates. INEC's publication aligns with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, aimed at enhancing transparency in the electoral process.

The displayed documents include academic certificates and affidavits, enabling political parties, civil society organizations, and voters to verify candidates' qualifications and supporting documents. This initiative is designed to promote accountability and reduce disputes related to candidates' qualifications.
