INEC Warns Against Violence in Kogi Political Campaigns

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) raised alarms on October 27 over reported attacks and intimidation during political campaigns in Kogi State. Dr Shehu Wahab, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), warned political parties and candidates that electoral competition should not justify violence.
He called for political leaders to advise their supporters against violent actions, destruction of campaign materials, and disruption of rival gatherings. Wahab emphasized that the safety of citizens must take precedence over political ambitions and urged all parties to conduct peaceful, issue-based campaigns in line with the Electoral Act and the Political Parties’ Code of Conduct.
INEC is collaborating with security agencies to ensure the safety of candidates, electoral personnel, and voters. The REC reaffirmed INEC's commitment to neutrality and transparency while urging stakeholders to avoid inflammatory statements.
The meeting aimed to review INEC's preparations and operational arrangements for the upcoming 2027 general elections, including ongoing Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collections.
