INEC Recognizes Prof. Sadiq Gomb as SDP National Chair

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognized Prof. Sadiq Gomb as the national chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), replacing the expelled former chairman, Shehu Gabam.

This announcement was made by Rufu Aiyenigba, the party's national public secretary, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja. The recognition comes after a Supreme Court judgment that affirmed the SDP's autonomy in determining its leadership.

INEC's decision marks a significant development in the protracted leadership crisis that has affected the party in recent months. Aiyenigba expressed gratitude towards INEC for upholding the rule of law and respecting judicial pronouncements.

He emphasized that the SDP remains committed to strengthening democracy in Nigeria and addressing socio-economic challenges. The leadership crisis intensified following disputes over control of the party's national structure, with Gabam previously enjoying recognition based on earlier court rulings.
