INEC Registers Two New Political Parties, Bringing Total to 20 in Nigeria

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has registered two new political parties in Nigeria, increasing the total number of recognized political parties to 20. The registration process involved assessing 171 letters of intent from various associations seeking to register as political parties.

Fourteen associations met the prequalification requirements, with eight successfully uploading their documents to INEC's dedicated portal. The two newly registered parties are the Democrat Leadership Alliance (DLA) and the Nigeria Democrat Congress (NDC).

The DLA fully met the statutory requirements and was officially registered as a political party on February 5, 2025. Additionally, the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, issued a directive for INEC to register the NDC, which has now been listed as an officially recognized political party.

These registrations reflect INEC's ongoing efforts to promote democratic participation and political pluralism in the country.
