INEC shuts door on Abure, insists tenure as LP chairman is over

INEC has officially withdrawn recognition of Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, citing the expiration of his tenure as per a Supreme Court judgment from April 4, 2025. The Commission's stance was outlined in a sworn affidavit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, effectively resolving the leadership crisis that has plagued the party for months.

INEC clarified that Abure's tenure ended in June 2024 in line with the Supreme Court ruling. The Commission also highlighted that Abure's claim of INEC not monitoring or recognizing the National Convention held in Nnewi in March 2024 was invalid, as it was not in compliance with the 1999 Constitution, the amended 2022 Electoral Act, and Labour Party regulations.

This move by INEC solidifies its position on the matter and sets the stage for a new leadership direction for the Labour Party.
