“INEC working for anti-democratic interests” – Labour Party faction laments

The Labour Party faction, led by Julius Abure, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of working against democratic interests by allegedly plotting to exclude their candidate from the upcoming August 16 election. Despite a Supreme Court judgment recognizing Abure as the authentic national chairman of the party, INEC is accused of attempting to undermine democracy.

The LP faction has taken the matter to court and warned INEC against conducting the election without publishing their candidate's name and logo on the ballot. The LP emphasized the need for INEC to respect the constitution and the Electoral Act, which provides a legal recourse for political parties excluded from elections.

The party criticized INEC for potentially causing unnecessary crises and financial waste. The LP faction highlighted that the issue of party leadership is an internal matter and questioned INEC's motives in the situation.
