INEC Withdraws Recognition Of Julius Abure As LP Chairman

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially withdrawn its recognition of Julius Abure as the Chairman of the Labour Party (LP). This decision comes after a legal battle that ended with a ruling from the Supreme Court dismissing claims of jurisdiction and affirming Ayuba Mohammed as the legitimate leader.

INEC clarified that Abure's tenure ended in June 2024, in line with the court's decision. The commission stated that Abure's claim to leadership following a disputed National Convention in Nnewi in March 2024 was in violation of the 1999 Constitution, the amended Electoral Act of 2022, and the Labour Party's constitution.

This move by INEC marks the resolution of the leadership crisis that has plagued the party in recent months.
