INEC's Actions Threaten ADC's Candidacy for 2027 Elections

Farah Dagogo, a former member of the House of Representatives from Rivers State and a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), expressed concerns regarding the actions of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He stated that INEC is making it increasingly difficult for opposition parties, specifically the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to field candidates for the upcoming 2027 elections.

Dagogo highlighted a recent court order that led to the deregistration of the David Mark-led faction of the ADC, which he believes reflects a partisan approach by INEC. He emphasized that these actions raise serious questions about the independence and impartiality of the commission, potentially disadvantaging opposition parties.

Dagogo noted that the ADC aims to present a genuine alternative to the ruling parties and is preparing for a nationwide voter revalidation exercise ahead of the elections. He warned that the new voter registration process could disenfranchise many citizens, further complicating the electoral landscape in Nigeria.
