Inner Wheel District 911 Empowers Widows in Lagos

On March 8, 2026, Inner Wheel District 911 organized an empowerment program for five indigent widows in Lagos, coinciding with International Women's Day. The event took place at the Rotary Centre on Ladok Akintola Road, Ikeja.

Beneficiaries Esther Durojaiy, Ayink Adeyemi, M. Nwachukwu, Toyin Adeniran, and Sade Oladipo received financial and material support aimed at improving their livelihoods, including a sewing machine for Nwachukwu.

Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu, representing Dr. Maria Gome, highlighted the progress women have made despite historical discrimination and urged women to step forward and break barriers. Guest speaker Olufunk Fowler Amba emphasized the need for mentorship and knowledge sharing among women, noting that financial empowerment alone is insufficient.

The event featured a panel discussion addressing contemporary challenges faced by women, with panelists including Mari Obadina, Temitop Kayod Ojo, and Oyenik Adeosun. District Chairman Omolola Fakey reaffirmed the organization's commitment to women's empowerment and community development.
