Anglican Bishop Calls for Support of Vigilante Groups

During a Sunday service, Anglican Bishop Dr. Olufemi Familoni of the Oyo Diocese called on the Nigerian government to equip local vigilante groups with sophisticated weapons to effectively combat insecurity in the country.

He expressed concern over the increasing loss of lives due to banditry and kidnapping, emphasizing that local vigilante groups have proven effective in the fight against insurgency. Familoni noted that the government should support these groups to enhance their capabilities in curbing criminal activities in the bush and forest areas.

He acknowledged recent efforts by the Nigerian police and armed forces but urged the government to continue its support for local vigilantes. Familoni also expressed hope for the safe release of kidnapped students and teachers in Oyo, urging the government to remain steadfast in its efforts against insecurity.
