CAN Urges South-West Governors to Enhance Security Measures

On Tuesday, Rt Rev Emmanuel Adekunle, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Ogun State and Bishop of the Egba Anglican Diocese, called on governors in the South-West region to strengthen collaboration for regional security to combat banditry. Speaking in Abeokuta during the 50th anniversary of the Egba Anglican Diocese, Adekunle emphasized the need for governors from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti states to pool resources and support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and local hunters.

He commended the effective handling of a recent abduction incident in Oyo State by security personnel, stating that coordinated efforts would deter criminal activities in the region. Adekunle urged investment in intelligence gathering and modern security technology, suggesting that local hunters should be equipped with drones.

He also called on President Bola Tinubu to support initiatives for strengthening the national security architecture, including state policing, highlighting the increasing targeting of Christians and clerics by kidnappers and bandits.
