Sultan and Bishops Urge Action Against Nigeria's Insecurity

The Sultan of Nigeria and Catholic bishops have demanded immediate action to address the escalating insecurity in the country. During a message marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year, the Sultan called for collective action from citizens and religious leaders, urging security agencies to stabilize the nation.

He directed imams to lead daily congregational prayers across Nigeria, including a special prayer on the first Friday of the new Islamic year, scheduled for June 19, to seek divine intervention for peace. Meanwhile, during a Thanksgiving Mass at the Holy Cross Cathedral in Lagos, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, the Archbishop of Lagos, and Alfr Martin, Vice President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), expressed concern over the persistent violence, kidnappings, and attacks by groups such as Boko Haram.

They urged President Bola Tinubu to intensify efforts to restore peace and security, highlighting the need for better equipment and motivation for security agencies to tackle these growing threats.
