Insecurity in Northern Nigeria: Bandits Imposing Taxes and Laws, Thousands Displaced

Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, expressed concern over the worsening insecurity in Northern Nigeria, where bandits have taken control of communities, levying taxes and enforcing their own laws. This has resulted in thousands of deaths, millions displaced, and increased farmer-herder conflicts.

Dambazau called on Northern governors to reduce dependence on federal allocations, focus on agriculture, education, and social inclusion to combat poverty and insecurity. The summit also highlighted the threat of religious extremism and the need to restore traditional institutions.
