Sokoto Governor Urges Community Action Against Insecurity

Sokoto State Governor Ahm Aliyu highlighted the critical role of local informants in the ongoing insecurity challenges faced by the state, particularly in relation to banditry and terrorism. During a condolence visit to families affected by bandit attacks in Shagari Local Government Area, he pointed out that individuals providing intelligence and logistical support to criminal groups significantly undermine security operations.

Security experts and military authorities have acknowledged that armed groups rarely operate in isolation and often rely on local collaborators for information and resources. This reliance erodes trust within communities, making residents reluctant to share information with security agencies due to fears of retaliation.

Governor Aliyu's concerns echo those of retired General Christoph Musa, the Minister of Defence, who emphasized the importance of community involvement in addressing insecurity. Both officials agree that defeating insecurity requires dismantling the support structures that enable criminal groups to function effectively.
