Atiku Warns Against Suppressing Political Activities in North

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, issued a warning to the government regarding the potential suspension of political activities in Northern states due to rising insecurity. He emphasized that such a move could disenfranchise citizens and rob them of their opportunity to participate in the democratic process.

Atiku, who is also a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated that suspending democratic political activities would not solve the security challenges faced by the region but would instead weaken electoral participation. He insisted that citizens in the North deserve security and full democratic participation, urging the government to ensure their safety and allow them to exercise their civic rights freely.

The call for the suspension of political activities gained momentum following a request from the Bauchi Central Senatorial District, which cited deteriorating security conditions, including renewed Boko Haram attacks and military threats, necessitating urgent action.
