Wike Initiates Crackdown on Abuja Transport Violations

Barr Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), issued a warning regarding a new crackdown on commercial transport operators who violate bus terminal regulations and businesses occupying green areas in Abuja. This announcement was made during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa on Saturday.

Wike stated that vehicles belonging to taxi drivers and other commercial operators who do not use designated terminals would be impounded. He emphasized that the FCTA would no longer tolerate violations of city transportation laws, declaring, “We will start a small level of madness in us, and then they will understand that they must obey the rules.” Additionally, Wike announced plans to recover green areas that have been converted for unauthorized commercial use, blaming some civil servants for issuing allocation papers for spaces originally meant for parks and public facilities.

He warned that car dealers occupying these green areas must vacate voluntarily or face vehicle impoundment, stating, “Any vehicle we find in the green areas, we will impound those vehicles.”.
