Atiku Abubakar Critiques Tinubu on Nigeria's Security Failures

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and a candidate for the African Democratic Congress in the 2027 elections, criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration on Thursday for its handling of insecurity in Nigeria. He argued that terrorists and bandits are continuously adapting their tactics while the Nigerian government fails to learn from past attacks.

Atiku emphasized that the nation’s security framework is not keeping pace with evolving threats, citing the need for urgent restructuring to address increasingly sophisticated geographical security threats. He pointed out that attacks have become tragically familiar, with the government making promises to investigate incidents without applying lessons learned from previous tragedies, such as the Chibok abduction.

Atiku proposed the establishment of a peer review mechanism to document lessons from past attacks and called for a comprehensive review of Nigeria's national counterterrorism policy. He stressed the importance of intelligence-led counterterror efforts and the need for stronger border security to disrupt terrorist financing networks.
