IHRC Urges NASS to Act on Nigeria's Security Crisis

The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has issued a warning to the Nigerian National Assembly (NASS), stating that history will judge their response to the escalating security crisis in Nigeria. In a statement signed by the country director, Amb.

Abdullahi Bakoji Adamu, the IHRC commended Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa for his courageous intervention on the floor of the House of Representatives in November 2025, where he declared that Nigeria is "running on blood and tears." The commission highlighted the urgent need for legislative action to address the ongoing violence affecting millions of citizens, including farmers abandoning their lands and communities being displaced.

Despite nearly four months since their appeal, the IHRC noted a lack of substantial measures to improve the security situation. They emphasized that the response to fundamental issues regarding the protection of life and property should trigger immediate institutional responses and oversight measures.

The IHRC called for collective action from the NASS, stressing that the security crisis transcends political and religious affiliations and requires urgent, courageous measures.
