IHRC Urges Nigerian Assembly to Act on Security Crisis

The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) issued a warning to the Nigerian National Assembly regarding the country's worsening security crisis, stating that history will judge their response to the increasing violence. In a statement released on Saturday, the IHRC called for urgent and visible action from lawmakers to address the crisis affecting citizens across Nigeria.

They praised Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, for raising alarms about the situation, describing his intervention as bold and necessary. The IHRC expressed disappointment that, despite previous warnings, there has been no clear improvement in security, with violence continuing to escalate in multiple regions.

They questioned the leadership of the National Assembly and the lack of visible legislative action following Doguwa's passionate appeal. The IHRC emphasized that security is a constitutional duty and should not be treated as a routine political issue, warning that failure to act could weaken public confidence in democracy and allow criminal groups to grow stronger.
