NAF Receives Five New Helicopters to Boost Security

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has received five new helicopters, comprising three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters manufactured by Leonardo Helicopters of Italy and two H-125 helicopters manufactured by Airbus Helicopters. The delivery was confirmed in a statement by the NAF Spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, on Tuesday in Abuja.

The three AW-109s are part of a total of 10 helicopters recently acquired by the Federal Government, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered by the end of 2026. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described this acquisition as a significant milestone in the modernization of the NAF, enhancing its capacity to respond to contemporary security challenges.

The new helicopters will improve capabilities in intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and support for ground troops. Following their arrival, the helicopters are undergoing post-delivery assembly and will soon be operationalized.

Air Marshal Aneke expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support in the NAF's transformation efforts.
