NANS Declares Emergency Over Ogun Student's Killing

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) condemned the killing of a final year female student from D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori-Ewekoro, Ogun State, during an armed robbery in Eruku community.

The victim, an HND 2 Marketing student, was shot dead just days before her exams. Several other students were injured, leading to protests that blocked the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Owoigbe Blessing, the SUG president, reported that another female student was injured and a male student was hospitalized due to gunshot wounds. Blessing emphasized the lack of security in the area and urged Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun to address the issue.

NANS Secretary General Oladimeji Uthman described the incident as a direct assault on the future of the nation and declared a state of emergency in Eruku. The association called for a thorough investigation by the Ogun State Police Command and urged the governor to enhance security around tertiary institutions.
