NANS Issues 72-Hour Ultimatum Over Student Abductions

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) declared a mass protest in Ogun State due to increasing insecurity and armed robbery incidents affecting students' residences. This announcement was made during a press conference on Wednesday by National Secretary-General Comrade Oladimeji Uthman at the NUJ Secretariat in Abeokuta.

NANS is particularly concerned about the abduction of five students from Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, over a week ago in Ipara Remo. They stated that if the students remain in captivity after a 72-hour ultimatum, they would proceed with peaceful mass protests.

Comrade Oladimeji highlighted the alarming insecurity that has left students fearful and unable to focus on their studies. NANS commended IG Tunji Disu for deploying a police aircraft to aid in rescue operations and appreciated Ogun State Governor Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun for his commitment to student safety.

They also demanded the arrest of those responsible for the murder of a student from D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, emphasizing that failure to meet their demands would lead to sustained protests.
