Oba of Benin to Curse Kidnappers on July 2, 2026

The decision was made during a meeting with traditional doctors, priests, and priestesses at the Benin City palace, focusing on urgent measures to confront criminal activities in the region.

The Oba expressed deep concern regarding the rise in criminal activities and social vices, emphasizing that the spiritual intervention is necessary due to the increasing threats posed by kidnappers and other criminal elements. He clarified that this spiritual exercise is not intended to replace the efforts of security agencies but to support ongoing initiatives to restore peace and security in Edo South Senatorial District.

The Oba urged traditional worshippers to continue prayers and spiritual activities leading up to the exercise, reinforcing the message that evil will not prevail in Edo.
