Oba of Benin Launches Spiritual War on Bandits

The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has taken a decisive stand against the increasing insecurity in Edo State by declaring a war on bandits and mobilizing native doctors and traditional leaders. During a meeting held on Tuesday at the Benin Palace, he emphasized the urgent need for intervention due to the rise in banditry, kidnapping, and violent crime affecting the community.

The Oba summoned spiritual leaders to seek divine guidance from royal ancestors, stressing that insecurity has become a serious concern requiring immediate action from all legitimate institutions, including traditional authorities. He warned criminals that their actions would not be tolerated and declared that evil would not prevail in Edo land.

The spiritual program initiated will run weekly, culminating in a major gathering scheduled for 6:00 PM on July 2, 2026, at the Benin Palace. Chief Osaigbovo Osamwonyi Akenuwa reaffirmed the monarch's position, urging traditional worshippers to maintain their spiritual responsibilities in the face of growing security threats.
