Ondo State Launches Committee for Safe School Program

The Ondo State Government has inaugurated a committee focused on the safe school program to enhance the protection of school children and educational institutions against insecurity and kidnappings. The committee was inaugurated in Akure on Tuesday, with Igbekel Ajibefun, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, explaining its critical role in creating strategies for improved coordination among stakeholders.

The steering committee comprises representatives from the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun Corps, religious and traditional leaders, and the Parent Teacher Association. Ajibefun emphasized the importance of stakeholder participation in the success of the initiative, highlighting that security is a shared responsibility requiring vigilance and resilience.

He also noted the recent attacks on schools, reinforcing the need for coordinated efforts to protect students and educational infrastructure across the state. Ajibefun affirmed that no teaching should occur in an atmosphere of fear.
