Police Suspend Tashe Performance in Kano Over Security Concerns

The Nigeria Police Force announced the suspension of the annual Tashe performance traditionally held during the Ramadan fasting period in Kano, citing security concerns. The decision was made in collaboration with the Kano state government to safeguard lives and property during the holy month.

The statement, issued on Saturday night and signed by CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa on behalf of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, indicated that the suspension became necessary following intelligence reports suggesting that criminal elements might exploit the gathering to perpetrate unlawful acts. The Tashe performance, a popular cultural display involving youth, typically features drumming and singing in street processions.

The police urged parents and guardians to caution their children against engaging in activities that could breach law and order. Additionally, the police provided emergency contact lines for residents to report suspicious activities and assured the public of their commitment to ensuring a peaceful Ramadan across the state.
