Kano Police Suspend Tashe Performance Over Security Concerns

The Kano State Police Command announced the suspension of the annual Tashe traditional performance, typically held during Ramadan nights, citing security concerns. This decision was made in consultation with the Kano State government to prevent criminal elements from exploiting the event for unlawful activities, including robbery and drug abuse.

The Tashe performance, which features costumes, street performances, music, dance, and storytelling rooted in Hausa culture, has been a longstanding tradition in Kano. The police emphasized the necessity of this measure to curb activities related to thuggery and ensure public safety during the Ramadan period.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori urged parents and guardians to caution their children against actions that could breach public peace and warned that anyone found violating the law would face full consequences. The police also provided emergency contact numbers for assistance during this period.
