Senate Urges Meeting with Tinubu on Insecurity Issues

The Nigerian Senate has resolved to meet with President Bola Tinubu to address the pressing issue of insecurity, particularly terrorism and kidnapping across the country. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele will lead the delegation to discuss urgent solutions.

The Senate expressed concern over the government's practice of rehabilitating and granting pardons to terrorists, which they believe undermines the sacrifices made by security personnel. A motion was passed condemning the death of former Director of Defence Intelligence Major General Abubakar Rabe, who was killed by bandits last month.

The Senate also cataloged several retired military officers who have been victims of violence, including Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwer and Major General Richard Chukwudi Duru. Additionally, the Senate condemned ongoing xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa and called for a report from the Foreign Affairs Committee within two weeks.
