Senator Supports Establishment of Religious Affairs Ministry for Interfaith Harmony in Nigeria

Senator Ashiru, during a visit to the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kwara State, advocated for the creation of a Religious Affairs Ministry to oversee and regulate religious activities. He highlighted the importance of promoting interfaith harmony to curb extremist exploitation of religion.

Ashiru expressed concerns about the commercialization of religion in Nigeria and its negative impact on society. He emphasized the role of religion in shaping values and promoting harmony among people.

Additionally, he called for government support for religious organizations beyond physical assistance to include intellectual guidance and policy direction. Ashiru argued that a Religious Affairs Ministry would impact existing institutions, such as the Ministry overseeing chieftaincy affairs, and contribute significantly to social stability and peace in the country.

Furthermore, he announced his intention to contest the Kwara governorship seat in the 2027 general elections, expressing optimism in his ability to lead the state effectively.
