Senator Lamido Defects to ADC Over Insecurity in Sokoto

Senator Ibrahim Lamido, representing Sokoto East, announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) due to the escalating insecurity in his district. He expressed that residents face daily threats of killings, kidnappings, and displacement by bandits, which prompted his decision to join ADC.

Lamido criticized the ruling Progress Congress at both state and federal levels for failing to provide adequate protection for the people, who have suffered from minimal intervention. He acknowledged ongoing legal disputes within the ADC but dismissed concerns that these issues would impact his decision, stressing that the urgent security situation cannot wait for political stability.

Lamido rejected the assessment of the security situation by Governor Ahm Aliyu, asserting that the reality on the ground reflects a far worse scenario than suggested. He called for increased security personnel deployment, better intelligence gathering, and humanitarian support for displaced communities, while also advocating for long-term strategies to address the root causes of insecurity, such as poverty and unemployment.
