Gombe State's Education Reform Boosts Literacy for 11,000 Kids

Gombe State has launched a significant education reform initiative in partnership with Eidu, targeting 11,000 children across six local government areas. The program focuses on strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy skills among early-grade learners.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya declared a state of emergency in education, emphasizing the need for improved learning outcomes. Professor Aishatu Umar Maigari, Gombe State's Commissioner for Education, highlighted the shift from traditional teaching methods to a structured, technology-supported learning approach.

This initiative aims to ensure that children not only access education but also achieve proficiency in reading and mathematics. The program employs digital tools, such as smartphones with structured lesson guides, allowing teachers to tailor lessons to individual student needs.

This method has shown promising results, with evidence of improved student engagement and learning outcomes. The approach is modeled after successful programs in Kenya, demonstrating significant literacy and numeracy gains within public education systems.
