Defence Minister Stresses Intelligence in Combating Terrorism

On Wednesday, Defence Minister Gen Christoph Musa highlighted the critical role of intelligence-driven operations in defeating terrorism and trans-border crime in Nigeria. This statement was made during a visit by a delegation from the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), led by its Director General, Matthew O.

Adepoju, to the Ministry's headquarters in Abuja. Musa noted that proactive intelligence operations are essential for tackling threats posed by terrorist groups and banditry.

He emphasized that satellite-enabled surveillance, radar imagery, and signal analytics significantly improve situational awareness, helping to identify criminal routes and hideouts, thereby providing stronger operational support to frontline troops. Musa reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to deepening collaboration with NASRDA to enhance space-based support for national security operations.

Adepoju also mentioned that President Bola Tinubu has approved the procurement process for additional satellites, including radar systems, to strengthen the country's security architecture. This initiative reflects the government's ongoing commitment to improving intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration in the face of security challenges.
