IG Disu Urges Kano Police to Intensify Crime Fighting Efforts

On Wednesday, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu instructed the Kano State Police Command to intensify offensive operations against criminal elements. He noted that proactive policing is essential for effective strategies to tackle insecurity and protect the state's economic assets.

Disu ordered Deputy Inspector General of Police Suleiman Abdul Dure to implement strategies discussed during a lecture titled "Asymmetric Threat Preemption: Urban Gang Management in a Commercial Hub" held at the Kano State Police Command headquarters. Disu acknowledged the command's recent successes, particularly in combating banditry and armed robbery, with 1,357 suspects arrested from January to June 2026.

He emphasized the importance of intelligence-led, technology-driven policing and the need for strict accountability and respect for human rights. The Inspector General also urged the deployment of modern crime-fighting tools and the establishment of a violent crime response unit.

Kano State Police Commissioner Ibrahim Bakori reaffirmed the command's commitment to implementing the IG's vision for community-oriented policing.
