Nigeria Police Arrest 1,198 Suspects, Rescue 166 Victims

The Nigeria Police Force announced significant achievements in its security operations, reporting the arrest of 1,198 suspects and the rescue of 166 kidnapped victims from June 9 to June 21, 2026. Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu addressed strategic senior officers in Abuja, highlighting the dedication of police personnel.

He stressed the importance of enhancing operational effectiveness as crime evolves, urging commanders to strengthen intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies. Disu provided specific figures, noting arrests for various offenses: 151 for murder, 117 for armed robbery, 151 for kidnapping, 104 for cult-related offenses, and 169 for unlawful possession of firearms.

Additionally, 166 firearms, 1,475 rounds of ammunition, and 47 stolen vehicles were recovered. He commended the successful rescue of abducted students and teachers in Oyo State, achieved through inter-agency collaboration.

Disu cautioned against complacency and called for continued public support for security agencies.
