PenCom Launches Pension Initiative for Women in Rivers

On International Women’s Day, the National Pension Commission (PenCom) initiated a program in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, aimed at empowering women, particularly those who are self-employed. The initiative introduced a special savings bonus for women who open personal pension plan accounts.

Akinsola Adeseun, the Acting Director of the State Operations Department at PenCom, emphasized the importance of this program in providing self-employed women with opportunities to save for retirement. The outreach event highlighted that approximately 90% of the population lacks a safety net for retirement, which the program aims to address.

Ihuoma Bom, the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs, expressed optimism that this initiative would improve the welfare of market women and small business owners. The event brought together various women’s organizations, marking a significant step towards financial stability for women in the region.
