NSIB Blames Poor Maintenance for Abuja-Kaduna Train Derailment

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) attributed the Abuja–Kaduna train derailment to poor maintenance and a faulty switch at Asham Station on August 26, 2025. The preliminary findings highlighted defective infrastructure and lapses in safety management by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).

The NSIB investigation revealed that the derailment occurred due to a manually operated switch point that was previously declared unserviceable. Furthermore, it was discovered that critical equipment like CCTV cameras and communication devices were defective.

The report emphasized the need for additional safety measures and proper maintenance practices to prevent such incidents in the future.
