IPAC Pushes for Independent Panel to Appoint INEC Officials

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Nigeria is advocating for the transfer of the power to appoint key officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to an Independent Appointment Committee. IPAC National Chairman Yusuf Dantalle proposed the establishment of the committee to enhance INEC's independence and boost public confidence in Nigeria's electoral process.

The move also includes scrapping State Independent Electoral Commissions (SIECs) to streamline the electoral system. This initiative aims to ensure fair and credible elections at both the national and local levels, promoting grassroots democracy and citizen participation.
