IPAC Vows To Boycott Rivers LG Elections: "Big Mockery To Nigeria's Democracy"

The Advisory Council of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has declared a boycott of the upcoming Local Government elections in Rivers State, scheduled for August 30, 2025. IPAC criticized the exercise as illegal, unconstitutional, and a mockery of Nigeria's democracy.

The National Chairman, Dr. Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, signed the statement, emphasizing that the Sole Administrator of the state does not have the constitutional authority to conduct democratic elections.

IPAC accused the state authority of undermining democracy by involving a fake state chairman to legitimize the planned poll and urged Nigerians to reject the assault on constitutional governance. Meanwhile, the Centre for Constitutional Governance (CCG) expressed concern over the mass suspension of political office holders by the sole administrator, warning that such actions could set a dangerous precedent if not checked.
