IPOB Condemns Akpabio's Threats Against Biafra Movement

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) responded to Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, regarding his alleged threats to use federal power to suppress the Biafra self-determination movement. IPOB's spokesman, Emma Powerful, stated that Akpabio's comments, made during a funeral in Enugu State, were a direct attack on their movement.

IPOB clarified that they do not engage in armed struggle and seek a peaceful referendum for self-determination, asserting that their demands are legitimate rights under Nigerian law and international human rights charters. They criticized Akpabio for framing their peaceful movement as an armed struggle and emphasized that the sovereignty to determine their political future belongs to the people of Biafra, not to the political elite.

IPOB reiterated their position that self-determination is not a crime and called for recognition of their rights without needing permission from the Nigerian state.
