Iran Reopens Strait of Hormuz for Two-Week Ceasefire

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on Tuesday night that Iran has agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for a two-week period, during which it will suspend military operations. This decision is seen as a step toward easing ongoing tensions involving the United States and Israel. The Supreme National Security Council of Iran emphasized that the reopening of the strategic waterway is part of a ceasefire agreement, which does not signify an end to the conflict. The final resolution will depend on the U.S. accepting conditions outlined in Iran's ten-point proposal. The proposal includes demands such as ensuring the U.S. will not repeat aggressive actions, maintaining Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, and commitments regarding uranium enrichment and compensation payments. Additionally, Iran reportedly committed not to pursue nuclear weapons as part of this two-week ceasefire. The U.S. is expected to issue a direct suspension of offensive military operations against Iran during this period to allow for diplomatic negotiations.
