IGP Orders Heightened Surveillance in Northern Nigeria

Olatunji Disu, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has directed heightened surveillance across Nigeria, particularly in the North Central, North East, and North West regions. This order comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East, specifically relating to the conflict between Israel and Iran.

The police aim to prevent any attempts by individuals or groups to exploit these global developments to incite unrest or sectarian tensions within Nigeria. Disu emphasized the commitment of the Nigerian Police Force to protect lives and property while ensuring national stability.

He instructed police commissioners in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to enhance visibility around worship centers and public spaces, collaborate with traditional religious leaders, and gather intelligence proactively. The IGP reassured citizens of the police's readiness to address any suspicious activities and urged community leaders to promote peace while encouraging the public to remain calm and vigilant.
