IGP Orders Security Boost Amid Shiite Protests in Niger State

In light of ongoing tensions in the Middle East, particularly following military actions involving Iran, the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed the Nigeria Police Force to enhance security measures across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This directive comes after protests by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites, in Niger State on Sunday.

The protests were reportedly in solidarity with Iran and against perceived aggressions from the United States and Israel. Disu emphasized the importance of collaboration with traditional religious leaders and increasing police visibility around worship centers and public spaces.

He warned that any attempts to exploit these global developments to incite unrest or sectarian tensions would be met with the full force of the law. The police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians amidst these evolving geopolitical tensions.
