Nigerian Police Monitor Islamic Groups Amid Middle East Tensions

On Wednesday, Olatunji Disu, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), stated that the Nigerian police force is actively monitoring Islamic groups within Nigeria in light of rising tensions stemming from the US-Israel-Iran conflict. Disu made these remarks shortly after taking the oath of office at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja.

He highlighted the potential implications of Middle Eastern security issues on Nigeria, noting that various Islamic sects in the country have allegiances to different Middle Eastern nations. The IGP expressed the need for necessary actions to ensure public safety, particularly in preventing protests inspired by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

He mentioned the recent airstrikes by the United States on Iranian targets and Iran's retaliatory missile attacks, which have raised fears of a broader regional conflict. Disu also announced the establishment of a committee to develop the Nigerian police force's position on these matters.
