iREP 15 Opening Night Celebrates Documentary Filmmaking

The iREP 15 Opening Night took place at Freedom Park from March 18 to 22, bringing together industry professionals and emerging voices in documentary filmmaking. The event showcased 30 selected documentary films and featured a keynote address by Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan.

A strategic partnership with Ecobank facilitated a smartphone filmmaking workshop that engaged 120 young filmmakers, igniting enthusiasm in the next generation of storytellers. The event also honored Anthony Madu, whose documentary chronicled his journey from a humble background to the world of ballet, highlighting his challenges and triumphs.

The audience received Madu's film positively, reflecting on his experiences at Elmhurst Ballet School and the obstacles he faced, including a newly discovered eye defect. The opening night served as a platform for filmmakers to share insights and foster camaraderie within the industry.
