Lagos Police Command Arrests 118 in Crime Crackdown

In April 2026, CP Tijani Olayiwola Fatai of the Lagos State Police Command led a significant crackdown on crime in Lagos, resulting in the arrest of 118 suspects and the recovery of various weapons, including eleven local fabric Beretta pistols, two Dane guns, and 21 bags of suspected Indian hemp. The operations were part of a strategic initiative to address increasing criminal activities, particularly in areas like Lekki, Ikorodu, and Festac.

Notable arrests included 58 suspects linked to street crimes and two suspects, Elijah Emmanuel and Toni Ekwan Oghanetega, connected to the kidnapping and murder of a 17-year-old. The command also targeted telecom vandalism, leading to the arrest of individuals involved in large-scale infrastructure theft.

CP Fatai emphasized the commitment to protecting lives and property while maintaining public confidence in the police through proactive intelligence-led operations.
