Former UBA Chairman Israel Ogbue Passes Away at 99

Israel Ogbue, the former chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA), died on August 99 at the age of 99. His passing was announced in a statement released by the bank, which described him as a distinguished statesman who dedicated six decades to service in Nigeria's public and private sectors.

Born on February 18, 1927, in Onicha Olona, Delta State, Ogbue began his professional career in the federal civil service before studying in the United Kingdom. He later built a notable career at the National Insurance Corporation of Nigeria (NICON), where he rose to senior management ranks before retiring in 1988.

Ogbue joined UBA's board as a non-executive director in 2005 and was appointed chairman in 2011, a position he held until his retirement in 2013. During his tenure, he provided steady leadership during a critical phase of the bank's transformation, strengthening corporate governance and accountability.

He is remembered for his strong family values and mentorship, often credited for his longevity to God's grace. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the family.
