ISWAP Militants Attack Military Base in Borno State, Killing Soldiers and Intensifying Violence

ISWAP militants, a faction of Boko Haram, launched a deadly attack on a military base in Jakana, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, resulting in the killing of an unconfirmed number of Nigerian soldiers and the destruction of military equipment. The insurgents stormed the town, targeted army outposts, and launched explosives, forcing soldiers to flee into the surrounding bush.

This attack follows a recent ambush in Sabon Gari, Damboa Local Government Area, where multiple soldiers were killed. The Nigerian Army has been facing challenges despite claims of technical defeat of insurgents, with ISWAP continuing to intensify attacks, especially in the Lake Chad region.

The death of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has led to ISWAP consolidating its control and attracting former Boko Haram fighters. The insurgency has caused significant displacement and casualties in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states.
