Military Repels ISWAP Assault in Borno, Officer Killed

On February 28 and March 1, 2026, military forces engaged in a fierce battle against ISWAP insurgents at Forward Operating Base Mayanti in Borno State. The attack, which targeted military positions, resulted in the death of one officer, Lt.

Col. Sani Uba, and the killing of five insurgents.

Despite heavy gunfire and the insurgents' use of improvised explosive devices, the military successfully repelled the assault. The encounter involved a large number of insurgents who attempted to hold their ground.

Following this, on March 1, another attack occurred at Forward Operating Base Gajiram, where military forces, supported by air assets, repelled the assault, recovering three bodies and various weapons, including rifles and bombs. Additionally, two insurgents were reported killed during operations around Kayawa Village.

The military continues to maintain control over affected locations and operations across the theater.
