NNPP Accuses INEC of Disobeying Court Orders

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has expressed concern over the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) disobeying court orders related to the recognition of its leadership. In a statement issued from its national secretariat in Lagos, NNPP accused INEC of failing to comply with a court order that mandated the update of its records to recognize Agbo Major as the leader of the party.

This order was issued by a High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, which gave INEC 72 hours to comply. Three weeks later, INEC has not complied nor provided any explanation for its inaction.

Olaposi, a representative of NNPP, highlighted the risks posed to the 2027 general elections if the leadership issues are not resolved in accordance with the court's judgment. NNPP has vowed to initiate contempt proceedings against INEC to pursue justice and equity.

The party has also called on the Attorney General, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to investigate INEC's actions, warning that such disobedience threatens Nigeria's democracy.
