ADC Warns of Challenges in Fielding Candidates for 2027

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised alarms regarding the feasibility of fielding candidates for the 2027 general elections, citing new legal requirements from the Electoral Act of 2026. Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC spokesperson, stated that the law mandates parties to submit a fully digitalized membership register across all 36 states within a short timeframe upon notification from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Abdullahi compared this requirement to the advantages held by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he claims has a significant head start. He described the provisions of the new law as deliberate obstacles designed to weaken opposition participation.

The ADC maintains that the combination of the new timetable and legal framework undermines the credibility of the upcoming 2027 polls, emphasizing that the current situation is not democratic and requires urgent review.
